Essex ASTs Working together to make a difference in school improvement
This publication gives an outline of a collaborative project in
which the LA worked with a secondary school exploring how a team
of Advanced Skills Teachers could bring benefit to a group of three
schools in challenging circumstances. This publication looks at
the particular value of ASTs working as a team together rather than
as a lone AST....view

New FLARE Publication. Making Research Make a
Difference
Commissioned by the DCSF working in partnership with Essex LA and
was carried out by Caroline Sharp from NFER. The work is an account
of a small scale investigation to show the difference practitioner
research makes in terms of measurable outcomes for pupils, staff
and schools. The report gives evidence that school-based enquiry
and practitioner research does have impact on pupil outcomes in
particular, and also on outcomes in terms of staff development and
school improvement. View

Working in collaboration.
The LA is committed to build on this and to promote and support
consortium activity so that it makes a difference and adds value
to what schools can do on their own. The Essex Education Development
Plan (EDP) emphasises the importance of this work by establishing
it as a Local Priority which aims to: "Systematically promote best
practice and maximise the impact of collaborative activity on school
improvement." This reflects the DfES view that effective schools
are not only those that manage autonomously and develop a distinctiveness,
but are also those that share and seek out good practice within
the wider educational community. |
Sharing practice.
Whether this be interesting, innovative, or kite marked as best practice
we are keen to hear from you and to help disseminate your work widely.
Similarly we wish to facilitate networking where Essex colleagues
can seek out and work with others on areas of common interest, development
and innovation |

The Essex Writing Project.
The Essex Writing Project is in its fourth phase with yet another
12 schools, and 24 teachers and 720 pupils. The research this year
contains a heavy emphasis on the pro-active use of assessment foci
to address pupil's weaknesses in writing by the use of multi-media.
In particular we are focusing on different ways of reading DVD texts
in order to prepare for writing. |
